Claudia Z. Huskey
Senior Advisor for the Office of Mayor Megan Barry
Government & Politics
Claudia has worked in Tennessee politics for more than ten years after getting her start in the Midwest. Claudia fell in love with government at a young age, when she graduated early from high school and served as a page for former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack. She was involved in many campaigns throughout her time at the University of Iowa, and upon graduation moved to Tennessee to work on Harold Ford Jr.’s 2006 U.S. Senate campaign.
After one of the closest statewide campaigns in Tennessee history, Congressman Ford hired Claudia as part of his staff at Merrill Lynch. From 2008-2012, she served as a Research Analyst and Political Director for Tennessee Senate Caucus Chairman Lowe Finney. Following her time working for the General Assembly, Claudia was the Director of Scheduling for former Vice President Al Gore.
In July of 2014, Claudia was named Campaign Manager for Council Member Megan Barry’s campaign for Mayor. In this role she led a staff of 25 to the successful election of the first female mayor of Nashville by a 10-point victory margin (55-45%). Claudia oversaw all campaign operations including fundraising and managing a budget of over 2 million dollars, voter contact to a universe of 130,000 likely voters utilizing hundreds of volunteers, cultivating and maintaining endorsements by community leaders, and campaign communications including earned media, social media, direct mail and TV. She then managed transition operations and inauguration planning for Mayor-Elect Barry.
Mayor Barry appointed Claudia as one of the first members of her administration where she currently serves as a Senior Advisor. In this role she coordinated the hiring of key staff and assisted with the complete structure of the Mayor’s Office. She supervises metro department support for hundreds of special events in Nashville and maintains over 70 Metro Boards/Commissions, with appointment recommendations for the Mayor.
She has served as President of the Nashville PRIDE Board, President of the 600 Garfield Townhome Association, Co-Vice President of Membership for the Tennessee Women’s Political Collaborative, and the President of the Tennessee Young Democrats. Claudia was in the 2009 Class of Nashville Emerging Leaders and in 2014 was one of the Nashville Business Journal’s 40 Under 40.
Claudia resides in East Nashville with her wonderful husband Bill and their adorable rescue dogs Eddie and Lucy.
