Vice President of Events & Operations at the Nashville Sports Council
Jay manages the events & operations department for both the Nashville Sports Council and Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl.
The Shelbyville, Tennessee native is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a BS in Mass Communications/Public Relations. His sports career began in minor league baseball in 1988 with the Huntsville Stars. Additional stops included ticket manager with Boston Red Sox Spring Training, Assistant General Manager of the Jacksonville Suns and General Manager of the Clarksville Coyotes.
Jay’s years with the Nashville Sports Council and Bowl began in 1997 as the Music City Bowl’s Event Director. As an Associate Director, he was given the opportunity to manage both event departments and in 2007, he was named Vice President. In addition to his Sports Council and Bowl duties, he has served as the Football Bowl Association meetings coordinator and Co-Tournament Director for the 2014 Women’s Final Four. In late 2015 and early 2016, as part of the NHL All Star Game, the events department was responsible for the programming and management of Bridgestone Winter Park. The park housed an ice skating rink for 6 weeks prior to the game. In addition to the ice skating rink, they managed a 5 day concert series during All Star week that included the NHL All Star Game red carpet ceremony.
Since its’ inception, the Nashville Sports Council events department has secured and managed a variety of different events that include: Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl (annual), 2016 NHL All Star Game, SEC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships, 2014 NCAA Women’s Final Four, NCAA Men’s 1st and 2nd Round Basketball, NCAA Men’s 2nd and 3rd Round Basketball, St. Judes Rock ‘N’ Roll Nashville Marathon & ½ Marathon (annual), Celebration of Champions, Women’s ½ Marathon , Music City Hits Softball Tournament, AAU Girls Basketball Tournaments, AAU Ironman World Wrestling Championships, USA Gymnastics Championships, SEC Gymnastics Championships, University of Tennessee vs. Wyoming football, University of Louisville vs. MTSU football, University of Kentucky vs. Western Kentucky football, Bowling Green vs. University of Tennessee football, University of Tennessee vs. Murray State men’s basketball, University of Tennessee vs. Oklahoma State men’s basketball, SEC vs. Big East Invitational, Franklin American Mortgage Charity Cup Golf Tournament, Dick’s Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup Golf Tournament and NCAA Regional Golf.
Future events include the SEC Men’s Basketball Championships (2017, 2019-21 and 2023-25) SEC Women’s Basketball Championships (2018, 2022, 2026), NCAA Men’s 1st and 2nd Round Basketball (2018)
Jay is an official card carrying member of Red Sox Nation and is a Tennessee Titans and University of Kentucky basketball fan. He and his wife Victoria live in the Gulch with their dog, Fenway.
